Wrong Assessment’s Milan label AWRY proudly presents its second release, this time from Midgar affiliate Ruhig with a remix from Sciahri. The first release was from the boss himself and set the label in motion with a terrific techno EP filled with dark, driving grooves designed to hypnotise the dance floor. This new one perfectly follows in its footsteps.

Ruhig is Italain Luigi Cicchella, a DJ and producer who infuses his sounds with elements of ambient and experimental. He has done so with Midgar and Spagiria and always balances arresting atmospheres with the right amount of functionality and dynamism to create bleak yet carefully detailed soundtracks.

Opening this EP is the excellently eerie ‘Lethargy’, which is five minutes of a buzzing and fizzing synth line extending over rubbery broken beats. It’s a desolate and lonely place devoid of human life and is truly evocative. The remix by Sublunar co-founder and Ilian Tape and Black Opal affiliate Sciahri reworks the drums into thumping things that never let up and cast a real spell on you. The synth grows even louder up top and is riddled with static electricity so fires your synapses into action throughout.

On the b-side, ‘Abode’ is a cavernous track with distant drones and deep, mid tempo drums that pulse like a menacing heart beat. A mind melting synth warps and drips up top, again hypnotising you as it burrows into the night. Last of all, the gurgling ‘Nadir’ steps away from the factory floor and into the galaxy, with twinkling keys and long tailed pads all sounding like a trip through the cosmos. It’s heady and escapist and rounds out a thoroughly arresting EP of forward thinking techno.
